Pre-Shabbat Blog

Keridos Madres y Padres!

Today’s blog will include excerpts from our Head Counselors, Anaelle Ezekiel and Jeffrey Owen, and our Assistant Director Julia Owen.

Julia: SAC 2018 is off to an amazing start! On Tuesday, campers arrived at around 3 pm and were met by jumping and singing staff members as they got off the buses. We sang Ojo de Hamsa together for the first time, and then Raph Alcabes, of our programming team, introduced all of our staff members as they danced out to their favorite songs! We spent the afternoon setting up bunks and getting to know each other, and then we were all introduced to our families. Insider tip: families are new this year! They are led by 2-3 counselors and composed of 8-10 campers of assorted ages, and they’re named after a pre-expulsion Spanish city (Gerona, Madrid, Seville, to name a few)! Families are used as an alternative grouping to bunks for special programs. Wednesday and Thursday were both jam-packed! With full days of activities, sessions, chugim, and both cake wars and Escapando de Espano (Escape from Spain) part 1 as our all-camp night activities, our campers have been hitting the pillows hard each night! We can’t wait for Shabbat, and hope you all have a Shabbat Shalom!

Jeffrey: The last couple days of camp have been successful and have offered a lot of fun moments. We have been incorporating a “Ladino word of the day.” Our night activities have been fun and messy, and our daily activities have been non-stop fun. Each and every camper has something different to offer to camp, every single minute, and has been keeping us on our toes at all times. Cannot wait to see what Shabbat and next week has to offer!
Shabbat Shalom

Anaelle: As a Los Angeles native I am so lucky to be working at Sephardic Adventure Camp. There are many people from all over the world that have joined us this summer including campers and staff from Alaska, Canada, and even Spain! The first week at SAC was fantastic! We introduced flag pole for the first time, took a majority of the cabins horseback riding, and last but not least the B4 bunk had the opportunity to decorate the one and only traditional toilet seat!

Sephardic Adventure Camp would like to thank our three Shabbat Kiddush sponsors for this Shabbat (Parashat Ekev):

Jesse & Shana Amouyal

Josh & Elana Zana

Leon & Linda Capelouto

Thank you so much for your generosity and support of SAC!

Shabbat Shalom,

Your Friends at Sephardic Adventure Camp
